GODDESS VISHNU THURKKAI

Appearance

Goddess Vishnu Thurkkai is a powerful and majestic form of the Divine Mother. She is often shown with eight arms, each holding divine weapons and symbols like the trident (trishul), discus (chakra), conch (shankha), sword, and other sacred items, showing her strength and readiness to protect her devotees. She rides on a lion or tiger, symbolizing courage and fearlessness. Her face shines with divine beauty, but also with a fierce energy that scares away evil. She wears a beautiful crown, ornaments, and a red or golden sari, representing her royal and divine nature. Her eyes are bright and full of compassion for her devotees, but also full of power against injustice. As Vishnu Thurkkai, she combines the qualities of Lord Vishnu’s protection with Durga’s warrior strength, making her a unique and supreme goddess who protects the good, destroys evil, and blesses her devotees with strength, wisdom, and success.

Story of Vishnu Thurkkai

A long time ago, there was a cruel king named Kamsa. He ruled the city of Mathura and was feared by many people. One day, he heard a voice from the sky (a divine prophecy) that said:
“Kamsa, the eighth child of your sister Devaki will be the one to kill you.”

Kamsa became very scared. To protect himself, he put his sister Devaki and her husband Vasudeva in prison and decided to kill every baby they had. One by one, he killed the first six babies. The seventh baby, Balarama, was saved by a miracle—he was transferred into the womb of another queen.

When the eighth baby, Krishna, was born, it was the night of a heavy storm. At that moment, Lord Vishnu appeared in front of Vasudeva and Devaki and told them not to worry. He said, “Take this child to Gokulam. There, a baby girl has just been born to a couple named Nanda and Yashoda. Leave Krishna with them and bring their baby girl back here.”

Vasudeva carried baby Krishna across the stormy river and switched the babies, just as Vishnu said. When Kamsa came to kill the baby girl, she suddenly slipped out of his hands and rose into the sky in the form of a shining goddess—Vishnu Thurkkai.

She laughed and said,
“Foolish Kamsa, the one who is going to destroy you has already been born and is safe!”
Then she disappeared.

Kamsa was shocked and terrified. From that day on, he kept trying to find and kill Krishna, but Krishna would grow up to defeat him and end his evil rule.
